Today marks the beginning of my journey as People Practices Initiatives Leader at DPR Construction. After two decades in the construction industry — from my first HR leadership roles at Kiewit and Skanska, founding ALTA Consulting and later serving as CEO of BuilderFax — I’m humbled by the chance to bring a people-first, field-ready mindset in-house at DPR.
Gratitude for the ALTA Journey
I couldn’t have done any of this without the unwavering support of my husband to get started and to keep going. I am also so grateful for every partnership I’ve had through ALTA Consulting. Together, we:
Designed and delivered a Diversity Maturity Model for a nationwide civil contractor, clarifying career pathways and boosting employee trust
Led a total-rewards change plan—compensation, incentives, and communication—that secured full adoption across a fast-growth regional builder
Guided a company through its first engagement survey, enabling the field voices to be heard in new, impactful ways
Each of these projects (and too many more to count) reinforced a simple truth: the best solutions come when we listen to the people doing the work—carpenters, electricians, concrete crews, superintendents, project engineers—and design processes that meet them where they are.
Why DPR? Why Now?
Early in my consulting journey I told friends and family I’d be hard‑pressed to return to an in‑house role. Consulting gave me flexibility, rapid problem-solving, and freedom to support the whole construction industry. But deep down, I knew that if the right role, for the right team ever came along, I would be all in.
Having partnered with so many on DPR’s People Practices team (first through ALTA and then BuilderFax), I already knew the culture was something special. And the more I moved through the interview process for this new role, the more I saw how deeply DPR lives its Ever Forward value—this team pushes for small improvements every day, not grand pronouncements once in a blue moon.
I went into HR because I believe it’s the fastest way to improve business outcomes—and the lived experience of every worker. When we design processes that honor those who build, we lift their partners, spouses, families, and entire communities.
Joining DPR means I get to scale those ripples across a global footprint committed to Mission 2030—to be the most admired organization in construction. If ever there was a time to bring my purpose to life on a bigger stage, it’s now.
Looking Ahead
I’ll admit—there’s a bit of vulnerability in pressing pause on ALTA’s clients. But I’m confident that the lessons we’ve learned together will fuel even greater impact within this great industry… from rapid improvement workshops on employee experience to mental health talks that can change an individual’s trajectory.
To my new DPR team: thank you for trusting me in supporting your Mission, here’s to changing the world together!
To my ALTA clients: the gratitude I have for your trust and confidence in me is immeasurable, thank you for all of your support. While my focus has certainly shifted, please know that if you ever have a question that I may be able to assist you with, please do not hesitate to ask (my commitment to your success remains – if you ever need a sounding board or introduction, do not hesitate to reach out).
Here’s to the next chapter — people first and Ever Forward.
