Building Together: The Power of Partnerships, Adaptability, and Tough Conversations

Updated: 2 days ago

The past year and a half has been a transformative journey. At BuilderFax, I had the privilege of working alongside an incredible team, tackling challenges, and creating solutions for our builders—the skilled workforce that forms the backbone of the construction industry. Together, we explored innovative ways to empower this essential workforce, and in doing so, we grew not just as a company but as individuals.

Reflecting on this chapter, I’m reminded of the invaluable lessons learned: the power of collaborating with the right partners, the importance of adapting as you learn, and how critical having the tough conversations is.

First, let's talk about partnerships. Finding the right people to work with isn't just important—it's everything. BuilderFax wouldn't have gotten far without partners who understood our mission, challenged our thinking, and had the grit to push through the tough times. Collaborating with the right partners meant we could leverage each other's strengths and compensate for each other's blind spots. And, let’s face it, we all have blind spots.

Adaptability came next. It’s one thing to create a plan; it’s another to watch that plan encounter reality. What we thought would work often needed tweaking—or a complete overhaul—as we moved forward. Adaptability wasn't just a buzzword; it was the only way to make real progress. Sometimes it meant shifting gears entirely, and other times it meant doubling down with a new approach. But always, it was about learning, listening, and adjusting course.

Speaking of learning, one thing we learned time and time again was the importance of having tough conversations. Whether it was with team members, partners, or even ourselves, avoiding the hard topics delayed growth, decreased trust, and increased stress. Addressing issues head-on, even when uncomfortable, created the transparency and trust necessary for BuilderFax to evolve. Those conversations weren’t always pretty, but they were real—and they led us to better places.

As I transition back into consulting, I carry these lessons with me. ALTA Consulting is not just resuming; it’s returning with a sharper focus, a deeper understanding of what it takes to drive real change, and a commitment to pushing boundaries—with the right partners, a willingness to adapt, and tough conversations.

I’m excited about what’s next and would love to hear about your own professional journeys. Let’s catch up - shoot me a text, reply to this email or schedule a time to chat with me by clicking here.
